Asymmetrical Body Shape

I was drawing out yet another body design last night (I must settle on one sometime) and drew the right hand side of an hourglass, then on the same drawing I added the left-hand of a teardrop so I could show my girlfriend the two options, the resulting asymmetrical shape looked very pleasing so I looked on the internet to see if it had been tried before. It had, but all were a mirror image of the one I drew. i.e.: the hourglass section toward the player. Would my shape be a practical proposition? The only reason I think it hasnt been done before is that the teardrop shape may foul the players body. As I have never actually handled a dulcimer, has anyone any thoughts on this? I hate going with the crowd?
