By choppiness in strumming by a newbie does one mean--

I have been playing about 7 weeks now and thought I had some tunes sounding tolerable until I recorded them for self study. I recorded several slower tunes - "Amazing Grace" and "Loch Lomond". What a disaster - it sounded like a non ending series of rear end car collisions in the fog with no continuity between the notes played. I used both a small digital recorder and a laptop thinking one was dorked up. I finger dance, play just the melody tabs and strum mostly outward. When I play I don't seem to hear the quick die off of the drone nor the rear end crash of the start of the new note when recorded. Are my ears and mind playing games with me?
