60-something wife, mother, grandmother. I've been playing dulcimer since 2010. I play weekly with a local group of senior citizens. I prefer to play chords & strum, and being a singer that works best with my singing voice.

I'm an adoptee, and grew up with the information that my bio father was of Dutch ancestry. My search is complete and I've found both birth families. But what a shock! There's a reason I've been a Francophile my whole life, or should I say that it's such a coincidence! My DNA match paternal half-brother told me the story of our grandfather who emigrated from France to Quebec, married a Quebecois woman, and they moved to the US. With the several French lines on my mother's side, and being half French on my father's side, I find out I'm over half French. So I'm even more obsessed with French than I was. I'm looking for suggestions for French music for mt. dulcimer. Yes, though my French was weak, I am taking French at the local college. So I speak French too. I was hoping there was a group here for lovers of French mt. dulcimer music but maybe someday. Looking for French mt. dulcimer music right now, chords & words to sing.
I ordered a new dulcimer this week from my group leader - he also made the 6 string I've been playing for many years. I need a 1 1/2 fret and don't have one on my 6 string. I want one on my 6 string but not yet - I need another dulcimer to practice on & become proficient, THEN I will have the 1 1/2 added on my 6 string. Looking forward to having another dulcimer too, for a little variety.
Still playing dulcimer with my seniors group, though I don't often practice. I'm a chord & strum player, lazy, and it's easy for me and just plain sounds good so I haven't had much initiative to go further. I'm a singer too so chord & strum works well with my voice. I haven't been playing my uke. It's been in the back of my closet. A man was visiting the uke group and ticked me off to excess. I was messing up a song & frustrating myself. Analyzing it, I said I think it was the tempo, and said it was cut time. He said there was no such thing. Now, I started clarinet in 4th grade, played into high school, was in NYS Solo Festival, and I sang over 10 years with 2 of our best local choruses, one part of the local major music school. I know what cut time was. He kept insisting there was no such thing. He was elderly and I recognized that but I was so angry, hurt, frustrated with the whole situation, and was totally doubting myself - what I don't know. I was really hurt. I haven't plaid the uke since.
Have a ukulele group this afternoon that I'm looking forward to. I'm just learning, and rather excited to see how many ukulele activities there are locally as opposed to mountain dulcimer. Happy Monday, Happy May, & Happy Spring everybody!
Welcome back, Sue, to this little corner of dulcimer heaven. Hope you enjoy it here, again.

Hey Sue, welcome aboard. Glad ya found us. Or should I say, welcome back?
Lindy, I think a few years ago Lisa may have purged those who had not participated within a certain period of time. She notified as many folks as she could. Perhaps she missed you or since you were not participating at that time you missed the message. Anyway, again, I'm glad to have you back.
