Hi Three String, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.
Glad you joined us on FOTMD. I, too, am interested in the Beech Mountain dulcimer builders. I began too late in life to meet most of them in person, but I did meet Clifford Glenn and Frank Proffitt, Jr., and I've talked to Charlie Glenn on the phone several times. I drove up to the Hicks family's Beech Mountain homestead with Frank Proffitt, Jr. to meet storyteller Ray Hicks. Unfortunately, all of the above have died except for Charlie Glenn. And the Hicks homestead burned to the ground last year.
My dulcimer collection includes dulcimers made by Leonard Glenn, Clifford Glenn, Frank Proffitt, Sr., Edd Presnell, and Charlie Glenn. In addition I have several reproduction dulcimers copied from instruments made by Ben Hicks, Nathan Hicks, Frank Glenn, and Eli Taylor Presnell.
I've never met David Hicks or his father, Stanley Hicks, but I'd love to add one of Stanley's dulcimers to my collection.
