Hi Valizzo, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer.  It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.  Hope you find this good for your retirement.

Ben

Great to have you join Valizzo. Congrats on your upcoming retirement. The dulcimer is a great instrument to learn to play and fall in love with. There is a learning curve. You do not need to know how to read music. Start with songs for which you know the tune and be patient with yourself. Please reach out as you have questions. We will do our best to find you an answer. Welcome.

Welcome to FOTMD, Valizzo. It's good to have you aboard. You will find an easy instrument to play without reading music. Most dulcimer players use a system of tablature (tab). It is like a map of the fret board. Lines across the page and numbers under or on the line represent where to place your fingers. If you start with simple tunes, you will soon get the hang of it. If you need help, just ask us. Enjoy your retirement. I look forward to you participation here.
