I presently live in Helena MT and occasionally Costa Rica with priors in CO, CA, NE, OH. I am recently retired. I am a theatre/musical theatre person. I first picked up a dulcimer in the late 1980's and have been putzing on it ever since. Mainly I just play what I feel. I am just now getting around to wanting to learn some cover songs by some of my favorites including, Neil Young, Beatles, Dylan etc. I read music which I find can be a bad thing. I get hung up in "what key is the song in" and other technical things. I have spent some time but not enough on learning different tabs. I usually just play in DAD and CGC. I am wanting to start playing more so that I can play outside my home now that I have the time. Interesting fact: I own an electric dulcimer that I found in 1990 at McCabe's Guitar Store in Santa Monica CA. I is a solid body unit with a cheap pick up. Doesn't sound the best but is fun to hook to my little Gorilla bass amp once and while and make some big noise.
Welcome, Viergy, to this little corner of dulcimer heaven. "After the Gold Rush" is a fairly easy song to play on the dulcimer. Since I did it in open D on the guitar many moons ago, it was one of the first ones I tried when I got my first dulcimer. "Peaceful Easy Feeling" was another I found pretty easy. Hope you enjoy it here.
