Walworth capo issue

Instruments- discuss specific features, luthiers, instrument problems & questions

Thank you all for the replies & good ideas.  I finally called McSpadden's on a guess & they gave me the name and number of Walworth's & HE WAS THERE!  So helpful & nice, he took my info & sent me 6 of the pads for free & they came the next day-can't beat that!

Walworth capo issue

Instruments- discuss specific features, luthiers, instrument problems & questions

I have two brass Walworth capos that I love.  The problem is the little black hard rubber pieces that "squeeze" the fretboard are deteriorating.  I've tried contacting the manufacturer, but couldn't find a contact and none of the commercial instrument or accessories dealers sell repair parts...only the entire capo.  They are relatively expensive and since I already own two, I can't justify buying another one just to get the two little parts I need.

Anyone else have this problem or know of a good solution?

Thanks.

That was very cool!  A water driven distortion pedal-ha!  Very creative Nate.  Hope you post more of your experiments.

June Apple Dulcimer tone/sound

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Ken, are there McSpaddens that are 3" deep?  Mine is only 1.75" deep.  That would change the cu inches considerably, or am I missing something as I often do?

A tune that's out of reach

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

I am so glad to hear some of your experienced players talk about working on a tune for years.  After 4 short years of playing mtn. dulcimer, I begin to realize I can't learn every song in a few days, or weeks.  When something seems out of reach, I put it down for a while & inevitably when I return to it, I find there is more to the tune than I previously thought.  I understand now that it's not the tune, but me who's changed-learned more, sharpened skills, etc.  Wow, still feels like magic to me!

Favorite chair/seat for playing?

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Marg, What a lovely setting for playing!  I'm looking for similar chairs, but it's hard to find just the right height, cushiness, depth, etc.  The hunt is ON!

Tune You've Had The Most Fun Playing?

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Thx, what a fun history lesson. U are quite knowledgeable re: jazz & ragtime-I love 1940's swing stuff-Andrews sisters, gene krupa, benny goodman, but also earlier Stephane Grapelli & Django Reinhardt-if i could just translate it to dulcimer.    U can call me jonesie (or RayJay for that matter) if you wanna:), but my name is Luann.

BTW, it just occurred to me that we know each other.  We met at one of Don Pedi's retreats at Wildacres, what, a year or so ago-or 2?-that was a fun one-Randall McKinnon was there too, remember?

Thx, we love our deck!  Jan, come on down!!  Some of us here in Morehead just spent an intense, but very fun 3 days with Sarah Morgan & Stephen Seifert at Ky Center for Trad Music w/jamming on Bill & Patty Mains' porch 1 nite & jamming at Sarah's camp the next-the final nite concert included Raymond McLain on fiddle-it was awesome!

I will try to do this also.  We just built deck vol.2 this year & its a pleasure to sit looking out over paradise in E. Ky.  Too bad this does not coincide w/the eclipse-that would be cool! Attaching pic, hope this works!

Paducah, Kentucky

The solar eclipse starts at 11:54 a.m. CDT and totality begins at 1:22 p.m. CDT, lasting for a little over two minutes.

Sean, Wow, that song is dredging up memories from the long, long ago of my aging brain.  Was this recorded by the Andrews Sisters or Shirley Temple?  The lyrics are so familiar, but I'm having trouble placing the tune, even w/youtube...

@hewalker, Is that perhaps the old Sarasponda, Sarasponda, Sarasponda, ret set set that I remember so fondly from 4-H days?  Do you have tab for that?  I would love to play it!  I'm currently obsessing 'Old Yeller Dog' & 'Ruffles', but love John Stinson #2.  Also currently learning John Stinson #1-didn't know it existed.

Awesome Dulcimer Camaraderie

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

So glad to know someone else is visiting other groups.  I think it's an excellent way to meet players who might line up with your particular style & others that don't.  I'm in eastern Ky & have been visiting the group in Nicholasville over the past 6 months--next stop, Berea!
