Here is a pic of my dulcimer. It has a full sound with double strings. I grew up in New Orleans and lived there most of my life. Played rock music, but after making trips to the Smokies and Blue Ridge, I am all in with Mountain Dulcimer.
I live in central North Carolina about 18 miles south of Raleigh. I have owned a dulcimer for 20+ years and for many years did not play due to lack of a local teacher. DVDs and other video or even cassettes back in the day did not work for me. Few people in my area know what a mountain dulcimer is. Some know about hammered dulcimer. I found a "local" group about 18 months ago meeting weekly 54 miles away. It is a group that is 95% retirees. I have joined them and am finally learning to play this beautiful instrument.
Hi Glad you are enjoying the dulcimer. I guess I may appear to be a young fella, and compared to '49, '54 may seem that way (year I was born: current age 63). Certainly would love to see pics of your six string dulcimer. Picture is maybe 3-4 years old. Ben
Hi Dtortorich, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.
Welcome to our friendly dulcimer social club, Dtortorich!
Certainly looks like a nice instrument and one with good tonal quality.
