Thank you for all you do.
Does anyone know what happened to the dulcimer program at Vanderbilt?
I’m left handed. The left hand is the more active hand; moving; playing chords. The right hand is in place strumming or picking.
I think the usual stringing is great for left handers.
Thank you. I emailed Tull.
Is anyone aware of DAD tabs? A book with tabs?
Thank you
Both Ken and Robin are correct.
Your instrument is personal.
As Jerry Rockwell says: It’s a possibility box.
Shhhh! I have traditionally fretted dulcimers, some with 1.5 6.5 and some that are chromatic. And two with nylon strings.
My favorite dulcimer is the one in my lap.
I saw this question and then lost it.
I have two “practice sticks”.
it just the fretboard. With the frets I use.
I got one from Backyard Instruments and the other from Grant Olson.
I keep one in the car.
Well done! There’s much to be said in the quality of a string instrument.
ENJOY!
Looking through the sound holes; is there anything written inside? Often the luthier identifies himself and the date.
Do you always play dulcimers with the same VSL? When you change dulcimers with varying VSL do you have difficulty adjusting?
June 21 is also Worldwide Make Music Day. 3 of us played our dulcimers together on the Liberty, MO square.
Flowers are some of life’s greatest nourishment.
Ken, we have a 1acre lawn. Will the battery powered self propelled mower last that long?
What is the company name?
Thank you!
Don
We all hope you will learn to love the dulcimer and dig in to all this simple instrument is capable of accomplishing.
Enjoy the journey.
Yes, I bought my 17 and 16 year old granddaughters a Joan Baez CD.
They don’t have a CD player. They stream their CW music.
Ken, glad all is better. A bit of daily dulcimer is the best medicine.
We were given a phone number to call. Answered at Cerner: took our shots the next day at Cerner Worldheadquarters.
No side effects.
In Toronto you jog every morning. 12 degrees tomorrow in KCMO. No way....of course I stroll.
Strumelia; sadly had I been there your poor husband would have had to share all of his treats.
I have four Backyard Instruments. Three chromatic DAd tuned; one with regular strings; the other with nylon strings. The third chromatic is tuned DAAA.The fourth is tuned DAd with 1.5: 6.5: 8.5 and 13.5 frets. My favorite of these is whichever one is in my lap.
I also have a Folkcraft chromatic cardboard dulcimer my son built for me.
I have heard of cardboard Backyard Instruments lasting 30 years.
I don’t know of the availability of plans.
Specifically when I play my dulcimers tuned DAAA: I will gather a bit of drool in the right side of my mouth.
It’s the only time it happens.
Is there a doctor in the house?
I’ve spent several years trying to get the nerve to ask this.
Thank you,
Don
I'm making an attempt to organize my practice. Primarily playing chords; is there a warm up to get you started?
