It uses ball end strings, almost identical to Warren May's dulcimers.  Here's a quick photo.

Parker, I'm interested. Does the dulcimer have loop end strings? I'm located in Hardy, VA 24101.

Really nice dulcimer built in 1989 by Robert Mize who was featured in the Foxfire 3 book.  I’m pretty sure the body is cherry, but I’m unsure of the top wood.  The VSL is 26-1/4 inches with a zero-fret and original 6+ fret.  It can be strung up with paired melody strings or four equidistant.  The wooden pegs work well; easily converted to geared pegs if desired.  The condition is excellent except for a small area on the lower bout (shown in the photos) where the overhanging violin-style top had a nick in it that was subsequently blended into the edge.   Plays beautifully.  The price is $250.
