I'm hoping that you might have contact information for George or Mary Ellen (I think) Van Peltfrom Boca Raton. I've just helped facilitate the sale of a lovely John Williams dulcimer to a new playerthere. Now I just need to find folks to help her learn. Of course, I've told her about all the websites, but playing with a group of live people is the best possible way to improve your skills!
Hope you enjoyed White Springs as much as we did. Sorry we didn't get time to jam. Most of our group had to PRACTICE a set list we were playing on Monday MORNING at the Deland Museum of Art--and we barely got a chance to do that!
(1) To invite you to play with the Picky Chics and Chaps any time you're in central Florida. We practice nearly every Saturday near downtown Sanford. You could e-mail me at sherylchapman@earthlink.net or call 321.223.7350 to be sure we'll be practicing when you're coming this way. (2) To inquire whether you know any dulcimer groups between about Palm Beach and Miami. I've been looking and haven't found any so far. We'll be needing to spend more time down that way to care for my husband's parents in Pompano, so we're wondering whether we might find a "home away from home" group to play with. I play MD and my husband plays guitar and bass dulcimer. (3) To be sure you know about these upcoming workshops and festivals:
16-17 January 2015 Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly at the Rural Heritage Center in Geneva. E-mail me if interested and I'll send a registration form. There will be 9 mountain dulcimer workshops plus a banjo workshop and a percussion workshop plus a potluck and jam and an evening concert.
5 February Tull Glazener workshop at Titusville Great Outdoors
7 February Tull Glazener workshop in Sanford
13-15 February Central Florida Dulcimer and Autoharp Festival in Geneva. More than 80 workshops! Call Ruth Harnden (on registration form) with questions. 3 workshops are already full, so get you registration in asap if interested.
21 February Jeff Furman and Anne Lough workshop at the Rural Heritage Center in Geneva. Let me know if interested. I haven't made the registration for this one yet.
Happy strumming!

Hi Jay, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people. Hope you find support and help...dulcimer players are a great community.
Welcome, Jay, to this little corner of dulcimer heaven. Finding a group is a good thing; starting a group is too. Maybe you are the one start an old time music scene down there! Hope you enjoy it here.
Delighted to meet you, too! Do hope we can get together to play before too long!
Feel free to call me @ 321.223.7350 or e-mail sherylchapman@earthlink.net if you're coming this way.
