Londonderry Air (Danny Boy) on mountain dulcimer, combination of two 1-5-8 arrangements of Heidi Muller (2014) and Shawn McCurdy (2022). Played in CGc sharp. Used with permission. The transition begins at the 1:16 mark.
In memory of a great father, Edmundo Garcia, who passed away on Father’s Day 24 years ago today.
1913 lyrics by Frederick E. Weatherly:
Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer’s gone, and all the roses falling
It’s you, it’s you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow
It's I’ll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, Oh Danny boy, I love you so!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
Ye’ll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an Avé there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!

Sooooo very sweetly played, and what a loving tribute to a wonderful man and father❤️. Thank you for sharing this with us!
you are so right about music being a journey 🎶🎶🎶
Celebrating my beloved step father! Playing “Danny Boy” brings back fond memories of a visit to Ireland (24 years ago). Sadly, though, Dad Garcia died while I was there—June 20, 1999. He took on 7 children when he married my mother. Because he played the piano beautifully, it was so fitting that music was everywhere we went in Ireland. Elvis Presley believed that “Danny Boy” was written by angels, and I agree. Wish my sound (playing and recording) was better for him and you, yet music remains a journey for us all.
