My wife is Japanese American and a taiko musician.  I really began my dulcimer journey when she composed a piece for her ensemble, based on an Ainu (indigneous Japanese ethnic group) folksong.  Dulcimer was as close to the sound of an instrument we didn't have.  Since then, it's become my main instrument.  I've haven't played in Japan, but I've given concerts in China and South Korea.  If you're interested, my music streams on many sources, including YouTube.
