Hi, sorry I haven't visited the site for a while and missed your comment. I have a six string too, though so far, I just occasionally noodle around on it. It is a curly maple and walnut by Ron Gibson. Although I have been playing for several years, I don't feel up to the level of jamming, in part due to my lack of musical knowledge re tuning, majors, modes, minors, etc.. I have used a capo once in a while. My dulcimer group plays in DAD and I use my 3 string for that. I do occasionally pull out my 6 string for some easier songs where it really shines, such as "I'll Fly Away" and "I've got Peace Like a River".
I am gradually getting better and hope to be able to jam someday as well as play my 6 string more.
If I ever can wrap my mind around how to adapt playing one with my group, I'd like to get a bass dulcimer someday too, but fortunately for my pocketbook, my lack of musical knowledge is holding me back.
My group does play "Ashoken Farewell", but not any of the other standards that you mentioned. We are learning "Bonaparte's Retreat" and "Old Joe Clark" right now and I am enjoying them very much.
