What is happening is that you are looking at discussions within GROUPS here on FOTMD, and you must JOIN that group before you can see the full discussions.
On this site we have Forums which are open to all for participating, and then we also have special interest Groups, which require you to join them before being able to participate or read everything in the group.
Look to see which group the discussion is in, then look for a "Join group" link or button. You can join and UNjoin any group by simply clicking that at any time.

Hi yall from Missouri. I can pull up topics of discussion but none of the replies to them will come up. What am I doing wrong?  

It great to have you join Rockyridge. Welcome to Friends of the Mountain Dulcimers. We have a group for Dulcimer Making which you find useful. As kenl said, there are a number of builders on the forum who are willing to share with others. Please ask if you have questions.

Welcome to FOTMD, Rockyridge. It's good to have you aboard. We have some mountain dulcimer builders here who share their knowledge and experience with one another. There isn't a specific forum for builders but you can find some discussions in the Instruments forums. If you have a specific topic you are interested in you can always do a search of the site. Also, don't hesitate to start a discussion if you have a particular question or something you want to share. I look forward to your participation here.
