Rediscovering Ionian while in D A d' tuning

I have just rediscovered that you can play Ionian tunes while in the D A d' tuning by using the middle string. You can harmonize with the bass string and also add the top open d' for a nice effect.  I like to play hymns in the Ionian tuning so this discovery pleased me. It just maybe that there are some beginners our there that haven't discovered this and I wanted to share it.
