Substitute for a turkey quill?

Hi everyone. Recently on Fotmd videos i watched John Henry play Pretty Betty Martin using a turkey quill. I liked this unique old-fashioned sound for such songs. Not having a turkey quill my solution was to use a small 1/8 inch plastic coffee stirrer for the quill. it sounds pretty good.  You have to experiment with where and how to hold it but it is worth it.  I thought I would pass this idea on. Perhaps others have suggestions too. For those who have trouble holding onto a pick this might be of help too.
