Curly Burr Oak
One of the best things about building mountain dulcimers, is that one can use a wide variety of woods. Found this curly burr oak board (surface was wetted with water to show figure and color) at my local sawmill/hardwood store. Dulcimer #176 has been started, back, sides, top, scroll, fretboard, and pegs will be made from this board. I've used burr oak in the past as a top to my wife's dulcimer which had walnut for the rest. It had a very nice sound.
