Question re: bass string tuning

Hi Strumelia,I watched your video on tuning to the four main modes and I have a question. You said that you usually tune your bass string an octave higher than the norm. May I ask if that is just personal preference, or for what reason?I would like to thank you for the wealth of information and instruction on your blog.And a big thanks to everyone here on this website. What a wonderful group of people! I have "lurked" here for a few years and at this stage of my life I am finally going to apply myself to learing to play this beautiful instrument.Sharon
