playing left-handed

Hi all -

I'm afraid that this is not the right place to ask this question, but I'm not sure where to ask it.

I have a left handed friend who wants to start playing MD. My left-handed daughter, who plays cello and guitar strongly advises her to play dulcimer left handed. If she wants to play left-handed does she need to buy a dulcimer that is specifically made for a left-handed player? Or on a three string set-up can the two outer strings just be exchanged so the d string in the DAd tuning will be closest to her?
