I have been playing the dulcimer for nearly 30 years. I play an Aeolus dulcimer made by Cynthia Smith and Dale Foye. My mother commissioned it during her illness with breast cancer. She studied with Cyntia and played it for about a year. I had been a classically trained vocalist and turned my grief to her instrument. Once I got the hang of it I started playing coffee houses in Southern California, mostly to earn gas and diaper money, as I was a single mom at that point. Eventually I was able to make an album, The Dulcimermaid, under the name Laurie Lester. You can listen on iTunes: https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-dulcimermaid/412427635
