I highly recommend staying in the dorm. Most of the classes are in the same building, and there are a lot of things that go on outside of classes that you would not have access to if you stay offsite. It's the best run dulcimer event I've been to. Concerts are wonderful, all of them including the "intimate concerts" that you sign up for when you arrive.
Great idea and I think one which I could certainly benefit from. Building finger strength, independence, and muscle memory was key to being a better piano player and I can't imagine it would be any different for dulcimer playing. I have to admit, although I have Mike Casey's book and also Aaron O'Rourke's Cleaner Better Faster, I don't pull them out nearly as much as I should. New Year's Resolution.....
142. Happy Birthday FOTMD!
Ah, those two videos of NA flute are so wonderful. I think I see a flute in my future. Thanks for posting.
Now if you happened to have a fretless dulcimer.....
Very interesting article! Thx for the link. I would also love to hear the recordings.
I just bought some of these wrist lanyards from ebay:

My intention is to drill a little hole in one side of my pick, thread this through and loop it, and that way when it goes flying out of my hand (as it is prone to do) it won't go far. For $1.69 it's worth a shot.
Janita Baker teaches Three Blinde Mice by Ravenscroft in her Rounds and Canons workshop. This original version is in a minor key and it's dirge-like and quite creepy. I can't offer up Janita's tab, but here's an article which contains standard musical notation for the minor key version, about halfway down. If you know the notes on your fretboard you can easily tab it out:
