OOOPs, when I wrote the above comments (and mentioned sheriffs deputy and banjo and all) I forgot that you are only seeing one of the eight videos I put on youtube of the porch pickin'. I think you can click on the youtube button on it and that will take you to all eight. This was just the only one that they let me join in with the dulcimer. Got to increase my repertoire and learn more songs! LOL
Yes Linda..... There is something about music that just makes everyone enjoy the day. Those neighbors that have farms near our cabin all grew up singing and playing guitars, banjos, fiddles all their lives. They all said their moms taught them and it was just a natural part of growing up for the folks up there.
Oh how I envy them of that. May the good Lord forgive me for the sin of envy, but I mean it in a good way. The guy in the blue plaid shirt (playing banjo and sometimes guitar) is a preacher in a little Baptist Church, a quiet man that so obviously lives his life as an example of Christ and you can see it in his genuine generosity and humble demeanor. The guy in the green tee shirt (playing fiddle) is his younger brother and the base player (sometimes guitar) is a friend from up the road. The sheriffs deputy you see (playing guitar) in a couple of the songs, is the preacher's son. He usually joins us, but unfortunately was on duty that day. But he stopped by on his dinner hour to say hello and to get in a few minutes of pickin' and a bite of BBQ.
The people you can't see in the video, but you may hear talking, are the rest of all their families, just the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. The kids they brought along are mostly all down at the creek cooling off and playing with our dogs. These folks are one of the reasons we are looking forward to moving full time up there.... it's like God blessed us with those good neighbors as His way of saying moving to the mountains is the right thing to do.

Grammy looks like one of the kids - you all look like you're really enjoying yourselves. Good times!

My Grandkids are of course the two young'uns. They were visiting from Denver. They are both accomplished musicians and accustomed to jamming with bluegrass bands with their father. The other three you see here are neighbors...... earlier in the afternoon we had other players (banjo, etc). Just a laid back afternoon and all the other people were sitting under a shade tree in the yard eating BBQ and someone was rocking a baby in the swing on the back porch.

That looks like a blast! Nice sounding bunch!

Thanks Robin and Wayne for the kind comments. It was pretty exciting for me because as a beginner player that was the very first time I have played something with a group of other instruments. Maybe the next pickin' I will be able to do more than one song with them.

How wonderful, Marsha! And you've got a picture-perfect setting there, too.
I just stumbled on this. This is big fun, Marsha!
