I like to be different occasionally, so I built No. 1 from wormy chestnut and No. 2 (see photo) from Lowes' yardsticks. Yep, glued the strips edge to edge to make a board, then thinned off the writing on my Ryobi planer, then bandsawed the body shape. Used individual planed yardsticks for body sides. Fretboard is redwood and tuners are recovered from scrap guitars. Donated finished product to a music therapy program for Alzhimers patients in Pittsburgh. Shape my own design. My "professional units are a 4 string McSpadden (by Tom Everette) from 1991 and a 3 string by Lynn McSpadden from 1974.
Welcome, Meredith, to this little corner of dulcimer heaven. I think we all would like to play better, so suggestions, hints, helps and answers abound here. Hope you enjoy it here.
Hi Meredith, and welcome to the world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn and exchange ideas about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.
