Thankyou Susie! It's been FUN to play-and every one of the dulci's has it's own unique sound doesn't it? Assure you it is indeed the woodsmaking the great sounds- NOT the player :)
Yeah Rob poplar is popular :) I just guessed the old dulci's were made of puplar alot because of the availibility and the relative ease of making the shape as the early folks did not have sophisticated laser-guided cutting tools :) Re
Kristi, poplar was a very common wood for dulcimers. It was inexpensive and available. There are a lot of instruments played by folks on here which are all poplar. The Prichard reproductions made by Kevin Messenger are all poplar. Here's a video of one being played: http://mountaindulcimer.ning.com/video/to-canaan-s-land-i-m-on-my-way

Here's a video of me playing an all poplar one:
I am interested in sound/tone of poplar. Never heard a poplar dulcimer so hope you post a video soon.
It's really pretty Rex. I love the design! Do you play with three or four strings?
Is she an hourdrop? She's really beautiful.
Thank you Helen ...
Thanks Rob! You all will hear her when the cats come out from under the bed --- that's the sign I'm getting respectable .... :)
She's a beauty, Rex. When will we hear her?
