I actually purchase it cut to my specifications from Balsam Banjo Works. Nice folks to do business with and very fast turnaround. I think the Richlite is more homogeneous (not layers). It works well for radiused fretboards like I use on my Aaron O'Rourke Fingerstyle dulcimers and for bevels.
Bob, I've not heard of Richlite before, but reading about it tells me it's a great material. I have a Martin with a Micarta fretboard and I love it. Probably similar to Richlite. Do you special order it for the dulcimer or does it come in sheets?
Thanks Bill. Actually that is Richlite- a man-made substitute for ebony that has pretty much all the good qualities of ebony without the the guilt of depleting the rain forests of what is becoming a scarce resource.

Gorgeous, Bob. Is that an ebony fret board?
