The Maid of Culmore (Trad. Ireland)

musician/member name: Music
Duration: 00:02:10
description:
See below for the presentation in English.

Culmore (or Coolmore; gael. Cúil Mór) is a small town near Londonderry, on the estuary of the River Foyle in northern Ireland. In the 19th century, it was a starting point for emigrants. The maid of Culmore has just left to America, in hope for a better life. This anonymous ballad talks about the regrets of her lover, who stayed in the country. Maybe one day he will also be able to leave and find her there?
- The melody was played in D minor on a dulcimer (Virginia dogwood/walnut) made in winter 2018 by Mr. Jack Ferguson in Salem, VA, USA :
