CD,

I got my Cripple Creek dulcimer in '07. It has a strum hollow. It's a kit, butI don'tthink that would be different from the others they make, because it is a kit?

Emails have been sent to the appropriate parties. The proverbial horses mouth will tell all. With that said the Cripple Creek does not have a strum hollow as you know it in say a McSpadden or most dulcimers. Can you post a picture? The Cripple Creeks I have had all were the same height as the fretboard throughout the strum hollow.

DDR, I like that one. Guess it means all the same thing. Just put a different way. And it's always best to listen to your mother...

folkfan said:

Heck I've always suffered from CRS then. One of my high school teachers told me I had a Swiss cheese for a brain. This particular instructor couldn't ever figure out what I could or would be able to remember. I knew what I could learn, I just couldn't remember what it was. But back then I called it DRD or Don't Remember Diddlysquat.

My mother would never have let me use that "other" word. ;-)

CRS occurs for me just about everyday, folkfan. It's an on going thing and I just have to deal with it. I know that alot of people have it and don't want to admit to it. It's "Can't Remember Sh--". So if you have it, it's best to come out of the closet and admit it. You'll feel so much better.

Just curious Aabout what you think of contests?

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Competition is a big part of festivals, but for me being a self taught player, I would rather attent a workshop / instruction class instead. Right now competing is not for me.

A Good Night of Jammin...

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Glad to see that you two got to meet. How long did he stick around? He's like a friend that you haven't seen for a while. Hope somtime down the road we can get together, Robin.

It was so neat to meet Randall! He, Gary Sager, Mark and I jammed for awhile upstairs at Gary's shop-- what fun. (I feel lucky to have gotten to jam with such good players!) Not only that, Randall took a couple of requests; talk about a beautiful, smooth baritone voice. . .

Mark took this picture before Gary got to the shop:

A Good Night of Jammin...

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Well I finally got to meet Randall McKinnon. We had a fun night of jammin and talking just about anything that came up. We went to dinner at the Cracker Barrel and then went to my house for a good couple hours of jammin. The real test came when the dogs came in to greet Randall. He passed their test, so Bev and I breathed a sigh of relief. We had a great time. It was really my first time at jammin with anyone and I was like a kid at Christmas. I can't wait for for the camp out in Sept. It's gonna be great...

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Hey, almost had one like that. It stayed red, then turned green when you hit the right note. It was really nice. I didn't have to pay a dime for it.Then I had to call Randall and tell him he left his behind. Oh, well I was that close...

What kinds of tunes do you most like to play on your mtn dulcimer?

I play mostly hymns now, they're just easier for me to play for some reason.

Welcome back and glad to hear that all is well, John.

To all at FOTMD

I am home, after an exciting early morning ambulance ride nearly three weeks ago to the ccu in our local hospital, where, after due deliberation, and much prodding and poking, it was decided that my old ticker needed a couple of modifications and a bit of a tune-up. Not the best way to avoid doing the Christmas Shopping, but I am assured that I shall be as good as new now, I hope that someone has told my wife, LOL.

My grand daughter has tried to keep me informed of happenings on this site, and I was surprised and gratified to hear of the comments made by my friends, thank you, I will be in touch as some as I get back in the swing, just feel a bit drained as of now.

Its good to be back tho'

Show us your sound holes!

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

This is what my sound holes look like. My dulcimer was a kit from Cripple Creek Dulcimer in CO. I think they were done with a lazar cut machine.

I have three type of bone noters that I got from Randy Bretz. They are holding up rather well. I did have to sand down one of them, but it's just like new. I also made one from some old bamboo I had here at the house. It works well. I like the different sounds given between the bone and the bamboo noters.

Where's your favorite place to play?

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

I usually play in the living room, while my wife reads. Another place I like to play is on my porch. Every now and again my neighbor will say something good about what I'm playing. He's learning to play guitar.
