Someone's idea of an upgraded McSpadden kit.

Looks like a McSpadden. They often had their name stamped below the bridge area. Most likely a kit.
For @Susie….
A joke often told in my family,
What’s the difference between a folk musician and a large pizza?
A large pizza can feed a family of four. (Ooooo! My apologies)
Since I come from simple folk, it was explained to me quite simply: a folk instrument wasn’t a commercial instrument, and widely available. It was made by folks who wanted music in their lives. Similar (albeit more complicated a build) to spoons, washboards and jugs. Now, most instruments (ie, kalimba, djembe, cajon, dulcimer, etc) are widely used in commercial recordings, by professional musicians. Folk is a state of mind.
Beautiful, interesting instrument. I’ve been happy with Folkcraft strings. Sweetwater is great for advice, and variety of choices.
I appreciate the info! Thanks.
Great to know. Thanks! Stay safe, my friend.
And I’m a very proud owner! I have another Folk Roots I treasure as well. Thanks for the information. This one is D50, #43741

The numbers on the label inside are:

Thanks for that. I will contact him and ask if he did inlay. My best guess is “inlay decals” of abalone. They are flush with the wood.
Recently acquired a Folk Roots teardrop dulcimer. Can’t find any similar images on the internet. Anyone seen one of these with inlay/decals?
It sounds terrific. I like to learn as much as I can about my instruments!
Thanks for introducing, me to yet another person to spend my time and money on!
Nope. No marks. But thanks for your input. The string holes are in the tail piece. Ball end strings are anchored and out of sight in the holes. It’s a very nice design!
It’s a strange one for sure!
Bought this used, without any labels or marks. Is this a one-off or a known style of some luthier?
I’ve seen a lot of “Global Music Instruments “ guitars on eBay.
How terrific! I wonder if Global was the distributor to Sears.
Thanks for the info. It’s amazing it sounds relatively melodic for 29.95!
The plot thickens. They look somewhat similar. The sound holes on mine seem a bit rounder hearts. The hook looks to be a better wood on the Oscar Schmidt.
And yes, the original peg hole was moved. Not sure why anyone would do that. Looked like a perfectly good hole! Maybe for alternate tuning?
Sears carried Harmony-made instruments before they bought the company. They re-branded these instruments (still made by Harmony) Supertone, then branded as Silvertone. I’m curious about the dulcimers offered in the Sears catalog. Apparently they sold for $29.99! Can’t find any info on the inter webs.
Hi. Does anyone have any info on the Harmony or Sears dulcimers, or can point me in the right direction? I have googled just about every search term I can think of related, with very little info returned. I believe that’s what this is, but not sure. Thanks, you knowledgeable people!
bought a used dulcimer marked AR Kern on the back of the headstock. I’m using an image of it as my photo. Anyone have info about him/her?
