Is this Ruggs and Jackel fixable?

You might contact Howard Rugg, who is a member here, although I don't know how active he is.  He resurrected Capritaurus dulcimers a few years back.  He would likely know the exact dimensions of the bridge and maybe has some in stock.

I knew Dave Nichols through A.S.I.A. He was always willing to share his knowledge with others. You live in a beautiful area of the country. It's been many years since my wife and I camped through the Adirondack mountains. My guess is shipping a dulcimer for repair is going to be cheaper than driving to a luthier, fuel and time wise.

Thanks Ken, I’m near Lake Placid 5 hrs from Rochester. Dave Nichols was my go to luthier but sadly he passed away. I know of one other near me but he has serious health issues. The price I pay for living in the remotest area. Thanks for the suggestions.

You're welcome. Your information says you are in the Adirondack Mts. There are two luthiers in NY that possibly could help you; Bernd Krause and Dwain Wilder. Bernd is down near Binghamton; berndjkrause@earthlink.net. Dwain is near Rochester; bear meadow.com.

Thanks Ken, great idea, I just sent an email to FolkCraft. I am in such a rural area, no luthiers close by.

I second John's recommendation. You could send it to Folkcraft in Michigan and they will do the repair for you. Fokcraft owns the FolkRoots line which might have been manufactured by Ruggs and Jackel. Howard Rugg continues to make dulcimers on his own. You can also look for a local luthier to help you out. I've done this repair for quite a few people over the years.

The problem is indeed fixable, if not by you, then by an instrument repair technician.

I would recommend removing this bridge, and replacing it with a new bridge with the exact specifications of this one.

Best wishes on a successful repair!

I bought this from a seller on EBay, there was damage that was not disclosed or noticed by the seller. Is this fixable? It won’t allow me tuning the first string so I can’t play unless I play 3 strings. Thanks in advanceoriginal
