I had to do a bit of repair on the above dulcimer after I bought it. One of the pegs was replaced with a friction peg from an old banjo. The saddle was rosewood, but since we were having our chipped up piano keys replaced, I laminated two pieces of ivory and cut a new saddle. I didn't actually notice much difference in sound. The price was $20 with a chipboard case.
That sounds like Newtonville on Highway 2 between Port Hope and Newcastle. They have a White Rose and a BA station. The BA station is an auction hall now, but still has the rotating sign out by the highway and the Whoite Rose is a garage next to the highway with an old fashion pump and lots of signage.
Baltimore Ontario is about 2 or 3 miles north of Cobourg Ontario on Highway 45. Cobourg is about halfway along the north shore of Lake Ontario. I lived there for about 8 or 9 years before moving to Port Hope close to 30 years ago. Are you thinking of The Streets Of Baltimore? That song was written about Baltimore Maryland by Tompall Glaser and Harlan Howard, but was performed by both Bobby Bare and by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris. It's a great song.

Fantastic! That's how I came into my first dulcimer.

Great find. I always check yard sales when I can, just looking for something like this.
