A professional strumstick, looks a little redish, what sort of wood is this ?
Hi Jergen. On the body the dark wood is Sapele and the light wood Poplar. The fingerboard is Paduak. I have a lot of Sapele and Poplar around and use them on most of my instruments. Expensive woods like Paduak, Black Walnut or Lacewood I use only on small items like the fingerboard.
Although I made an Andy Mackie stick dulcimer in the past this was my first attempt at designing and making an SD with a much larger sound box and I was very pleased with the result. A couple of days after finishing it I brought it along to a show where I was selling my home made kanteles thinking I could start learning to play it properly whilst there. On the morning of the show someone insisted on buying it, just as I felt I was getting the feel of it!
