Thanks for givin' my song a listen Robin. Folks on other sites have echoed your perceptive comment that it's the Merlin that drives the tune and gives it a sense of urgency. Glad ya liked it!
Hi Dusty. I always play all the instruments in my original songs..for better of worse..lol. No samples or loops...I own no software. I record on a Boss BR1200Cd..no longer in production. I really like the Merlin, primarily because of my ability to play it comfortably in a guitar position. I struggle still with the lap position on my MD and the slip sliding McNally sticks. As for a Seagull 12 string, I'd love to own one...but one more guitar in my studio and my wife will have me out peckin' at seeds with the chicadees :-))
Perhaps the "old time modal feel" is the result of building the whole tune from my Merlin tuned D-A-CC.
Hey Robin..thanks for the listen and comment. Glad ya liked it!
As long as you are playing in the piece you post and it is not under copyright, feel free to go right ahead. Those Seagull Merlins are pretty cool, aren't they. It is odd that they have a 6-1/2 fret but not a 6 fret, though. I have Seagull 12-string guitar that I like a lot.
Nice tune. It definitely has that old time modal feel to it.
I'm posting "Silas Cain" because it was born and developed from an arrangement I wrote on my new Seagull "Merlin". I know I am pushing it's appropriateness for this site with the addition of the other instruments, so if that is the case just let me know and I will delete it. I just love to write songs, record them in my home studio, and share them with others of like mind. Hope you enjoy...
Thanks Lexie...glad the little Merlin spoke to you! For this song, I had it tuned D-A-CC.
It's a great little instrument...very well built by folks up in Quebec and very reasonably priced.
Pine that was Fantastic and love the sound of the Merlin.
I am thinking we all love to hear you play and share your music. Really enjoyed it.

Oh that's just fantastic. I love the timbre of the Merlin - it drives the tune along. Great recording!!!!!!
Pine, All I can say is WOW!!
Thanks Steven!
