Maria, I've been enjoying all of your songs and it's been so nice getting to know you!

I'd love your opinion about my song, Bluebell Meadows Blue.  At the end of each verse the lyrics are "to your bluebell meadows so blue."  Then on the chorus section, after "away away" and using an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT melody, I sing "bluebell meadows blue."

Do you see my dilemma?

1. Is it just too much about the dang bluebell meadows? Too much repetition?

2. It's as if this song, right now, has two "hooks" and it just seems wrong! Are you familiar with the term "hook?" I'm so stuck thinking about this!!!!!!!

thx - mary

I posted I think a response to this on your wall...still unsure how this all works sometimes. But in essence what I said was that I think the song should stay exactly as it is. I don't think it's redundant or anything...and I LOVE the birds chirping too!

Love the song Let me call you sweetheart. Can you tell me how to get the tabs for the song. Thanks.

BTW... You sounded great :)

Hey sorry I just saw this now...I'm trying to remember where I got the tab. Check Everything Dulcimer" or worst case google dulcimer tab. I'm so sorry I didn't see this and could have helped you. Also Tull Glazener has this on his web site for purchase and I think he gives a cd etc...

take care

Hi Maria; so happy to hear you are getting to strumming on your new dulci', it is fun to hear your excitement. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and troubles with my hands, it doesn't go away or heal, just changes, so I have learned creative ways to play my dulcimers, huh ya, can't have just one!  The fun thing about dulcimers is you play them the way You choose, most comfortable for you and then you get all the support and encouragement from the wonderful folks from FOTMD. Amplified sounds like what you are looking for, Jack will help I am sure....I wish you a good recovery and happy strumming!

Oh boy I'm glad you are able to keep playing despite the arthritis..I bet it's actually therapeutic to some degree...I know even for me , I fell like my left hand is getting "therapy" because it was in a sling for two weeks and I felt it was very weak at first...

Take care and YES, I'm getting quite obsessed with the dulcimer!

Have to go to work but I really want to play my dulcimer (sounds like a Tee shirt to me!!)

Jack Ferguson:Hi Sleepingangel, Welcome to Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer. You will find some wonderful folks here with a vast knowledge of dulcimers, and music in general. I am sorry for your misfortune, and hope your recovery is fast and complete. You expressed an interest in electric dulcimers. Here is a video of one I recently completed. Dulcimers are truly a gift, and can offer so much. Take care, Jack

Oh thanks so much for the welcome. Thanks for posting the video I enjoyed it very much. You have built some very very pretty instruments!!

I'm certainly going to be having what guitarists call "GAS" guitar acquisition syndrome...what's it called for dulcimers "DAS" lol

take care

: Hi Maria, I see you are interested in Robert Schuler MD's and wanted to let you know I bought one from him and it is beautiful sounding, beautifully made of butternut and I recommend him highly. I live in MT and there are no MD folks around, so I just spoke with him through this site looked at his pictures and recordings and I am so pleased with it. He has reasonable prices and models his builds after Jefferies an old time builder. It was my first "real" MD and I made a good choice. Mine is versatile in that the nut is notched so you can use 4 equidistant strings or change it to two melody strings and two drones. I wasn't aware it had a floating bridge, which was a shock, being so new with this instrument, but I talked about it both with Robert and this site and this took care of my concerns so I understood about re-stringing.   I saw that you are talking with him and I hope that you will actually be able to meet him, see his shop and farm, see first hand the beautiful workmanship he does. So good luck on your dulci' Quest and let me know what you decide on and what you think. Lexie

oh thanks so much. That's great to hear.I can tell that I'm going to probably need one that has amplification as I do perform with my guitar. Of course do to my "accident" I can't play guitar for many months. I do have an upcoming gig and if I really take to the dulci I'm going to need to amplify it. I am excited cause I wrote a song with my roosebeck the day after I got it (yesterday!!!) and I want to sing it at my gig!!

Take care

Maria

Hi Sleepingangel, and welcome to the wonderful world of the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer.  It's a good place to come, spend some time, learn about the dulcimer, and to meet some good people.  Sorry to hear of your mother's passing; and too, the severing of your finger.  Hope the dulcimer helps to fill the bill and that you can also get back to playing the guitar. Ben

Thanks so much for the amazing welcome. So happy to be here. I am enjoying learning from the posts and the videos!!
