In this video I describe the restoration I did in April 2025 of an Arthur Dixon mountain dulcimer from the 1960s. The dulcimer was made by Judge Arthur Dixon, a county judge in Whitesburg, Ky. This dulcimer is number 44 of about 250 that he made. It was in my family since we obtained it when we lived in Whitesburg in the early 1960s. Special thanks to the members of the online forum, Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer, for their advice and insight into how to restore it, etc.
Wow you sure made that look nice and shiny and new! It is beautiful! And sure sounds nice too! You have to be happy with it! Thank you for sharing the pictures - they show just how rough it was!
I had to opportunity to see an Arthur Dixon dulcimer when I attended the Hindman Dulcimer Homecoming. It went through the 2022 flood in Hindman. It is still in one piece but missing the nut and bridge as well as filled with mud inside.

Oh, my...I thought mine was mess...as John Petry said when I shared about mine, "looks like it came up from the ocean floor in an old viking ship"...this sounds even worse! Hope someone can restore it...
Nice video.Loves to see that T-shirt with the flag.

Thanks Robin!
Your restoration looks great!
Happy strumming!
If you would like to see what a disaster
this dulcimer was before I took on restoring it, I'll attach a few photos here. I'm very glad to have found FOTMD as I got started on it...the expert advice of the membership here was very helpful in my efforts to bring it back to life!
(And if you would like to follow along in my process of getting advice from this group as I restored it, see the forum discussion titled " Help With Restoring A 1962 Arthur Dixon Dulcimer ?")
