This song is my biggest hit on youtube. I've got others that are much better, but this one comes up on the first page of certain search results for some reason. Frankly, the sound quality is pretty poor.

You are spot-on with your 'real answer'.The recorder on my camera isn't so hot and the sound with my Zoom H2 is way better. Flint-Hill has given me instructions about how to use my camera for video with the H2 for sound-- I just haven't had the courage to try it out yet. ;)

No, you're right. I added a bit of reverb when I got rid of the noise. A little too much, I think, and it makes a buzz. I'm still working on settings, and I have several more of my early recordings in progress getting this treatment. I think the real answer is to record good sound in the first place, and manipulate that just a little, rather than trying to edit out major problems with heavy-duty effects. Damping out all the camera mic noise means you lose those frequencies in the music, too.

Tom, it's probably just me but the sound of the dulcimer seems better on this recording. On the second one it sounded as though there could've been a bit of an effect of some kind used on the dulcimer. Probably just me.Neat Civil War tune!
