Thanks much Blue Hand. I'll have to work on that. Again, nicely done. I love the extra depth of sound from the static bourdons, especially in that G Dorian tuning with G Ionian drones.

now that I can read the words in MiddleDutch it's much easier to follow along. The English will help me understand what I'm saying. With dulcimers a duet could be worked up with one person playing the Dorian melody and the other playing Ionian drones.

Thank you for the comments!

Folkfan, it is indeed a variation on the French tune, J''ai vu le loup. The Occitan version Ai vist lo lop is the oldest version of this song we know of, which dates back to about 1350.
In Scandinavia though the tune was adapted and changed a bit to the way i play it.

Ken, I am tuned to GDC DGG, which puts me in Dorian G.
The Middledutch lyrics are:

k sach eenen wolf, eyn vos endie hase

k sach hen danssen alle dre

k sach eenen wolf, eyn vos endie hase

k sach hen danssen alle dre

In der coude winter snee

Sagic eenen wolf, eyn vos endie hase

In der coude winter snee

Sagic hen danssen alle dre

And a free translation in English:
I saw a wolf, a fox and a hare

I saw them dancing, all three

I saw a wolf, a fox and a hare

I saw them dancing, all three

In the cold winter snow
i saw a wolf, a fox and a hare
In the cold winter snow
I saw them dancing, all three.

Thanks, Lisa. My ears kept saying that the tune was familiar, but I couldn't put words to it. Finally the word loup popped to the surface and I realized that my mind was trying to sing along in French. I had to go find a song with loup in the title on my iTunes. Confusion reigns with a change of language and tempo.

The song on the Hummel in Middledutch certainly is pretty.

Your tune reminds me so of a French song, J'ai Vu Le Loup

That's because it is indeed the same song, Folkfan. J'ai vu le loup, le renard, le lievre (I saw the wolf, the fox, the hare...)

BlueHand, very nice, as usual! I always know I will like what I hear when I click on one of your clips.

Very nice indeed. Great minor tune (what tuning did you use?) And what are the words, Dutch and English? I'd love to add that to my minor key repertoire.
