My great grandfather, Everett Mackenzie Thompson, loved his horses. I inherited my passion for them naturally! His horses helped him on his Appalachian farm. Mom tells me a story of how, as a child, she would ask if she could sit on one of them sometimes, after they had done their work for the day 🙂 Great Grandpa was very reluctant to move to a tractor when the time came. He still cherished his horses. This tune is in honor of him and his horses and the love between them.

This tune is played on my Bill and Lora Berg 5-string dulcimer (it has all 5 strings on it - listen to how it rings!) with its beautiful crane sound holes and stunning wood work. I am using a leather noter and a leather pick to play it with (except at the very end of the tune, where I toss the noter aside and use my fingers).
