New Bowed Psaltery Day
Adventures with 'other' instruments...
GORGEOUS!!!! Want one!!!
Thank you for keeping up the conversation, Andreas!!! I love reading your updates and am inspired by them.
Salt Springs, you are the perfect encouragement! Thank you! I keep thinking about where I'd be now had I not quit so many times. I'm not seeing that as a downer, but as a DON'T DO IT AGAIN! That every little bit adds up, so if nothing else keep at least doing the little bit!
@steven-berger, we are kindred spirits. I love that song so much! You'll hafta weigh in also on "A Man's A Man For A' That"....
I am loving this discussion! Years ago I used to ride 11.5 miles each way to work. I loved it, because I beat the bus by 4 mins and didn't have to walk 30 mins at either end depending on the day and time. That ride would kill me now, but I long to get back on my bike! Y'all are encouraging me. I will get there again, or I'll create a new love. I really want a longboard skateboard to ride the neighborhood on... Can you imagine? OH keep talkin'!
BTW Friday = 3 weeks into my HASfit workouts. I am amazed at the difference in my knees and how stairs don't hurt anymore!!!!!
@Robin-Thompson, I can't wait to hear about your mini concert!
Today Hazel and I played in church. I have practiced and practiced and practiced, and I don't know what happened, but most of the song ended up being Hazel's violin with my singing. LOL! AH well. I still enjoyed it very much!
@salt-springs, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! I really loved your sharing, and I've been wanting to tell you so! It's just been crazy here. I may send you a message with way TMI sometime....
@Andreas-Fischer, YOU'RE AMAZING!!!
@Strumelia, I love the idea of your new gadget! Please share how you like it over time.
@andreas-fischer please keep us posted! I have 150+ to lose as well. I'm sure we can encourage one another to success!!!
@steve-smith how did it go? That sounds AMAZING! Any footage to share?

I sure hope we have another good turnout!!! Last year blew my mind. OH so FUN!!!!
I'm sure we had a thread already on this, but I have been searchin' and searchin' and cannot find it! Please tell me where and what you are playing!!!
Hazel and I are playing in church on the 2nd, "What Wondrous Love". We've had more time to practice than last time, though there's one note I'll never be able to hit. Still excited! HA HA! I also realized that I was using the wrong side of my bamboo noter for a while, and somehow it was snagging and pulling my melody string(s) out-of-tune. DUH! Looking forward to a better go-round this time....
OH that's a great question!!! I have no idea....
Trevor Noah's _Born a Crime_. Sometimes it's hard, and sometimes it makes me laugh out loud while waiting in a medical office....
I never seem to get this part of my life down for any length of time. I kept injuring myself! So I've now gone back to free HASfit senior vids on YouTube.
I see this was two years ago, but I'm still jealous of both of yous!!!!
Kusani and Richard, I just had to come back and share that my gratitude for y'all knows NO bounds!!! I am still so enjoying my bamboo noters, so I think of y'all with thanksgiving often.
OH that's hard. Too many! Right now I really do love A Man's a Man for A' That though....
Tom Dooley?
I LOVE THAT SONG! Do you play it on dulcimer? Is there a recording anywhere?
Silver Dagger and Hard Times Come Again No More
I'M SO EXCITED, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
A dulcimer appears in one of the pictures of the children's book _The Rag Coat_, by Lauren Mills. It's one of my favorites!
Robin, I'm not sure I realized you are a noter only player. I love, LOVE your playing!!! I dream of a chromatic, sometimes, but I think I still wanna master what I have first before moving on. And I have a long, long way to go! I am enjoying it so very much though....
I know I'm always in this place of failure, but my BFF became a PT assistant and shared some great advice that I will move to: It's not about your daily workout (not that it's not necessary!)~it's about living an active lifestyle. An easy way to do this is to get up every hour for some movement, i.e. 20 squats and such. So doable! Hope I'm inspired, and so are you....
Thank you for this resource!
So far we have enjoyed three friends from church, a visitor from China, and a neighbor doing Native drumming, guitar, accordion, mountain dulcimer, a little kid piano, show tunes, and opera. OH my day has already been made, and I don't even think it's over yet...
This pic was taken before it all kicked off. The table filled with food~sweet tea, muffins, veggie tray, fruit, summer sausage, cheese, and cranberry bars.
Well, new players just showed up...
So that was a bit ago, my post didn't send, but I had a very talented, classical guitarist with his very talented, singing wife playing uke. They are AMAZING, and they were here for about four, glorious songs....
Please come tell me about your plans for tomorrow, and follow up with pics later!
I love this day. This will be our third year participating. We are still making a poster to hang from the porch, I have a few chalkboards to draw on, we will put out a table with iced tea and cups and whatever instruments we can find around the house, and I've invited all kinds of musical folk to show up! Usually it's just us and our neighbor, but ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!
I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!
Only week 2, but still going strong with HASfit. :)
Thank you, Strumelia. I'm doing the August Foundation schedule from HASfit.com, and it is a perfect, safe startup. All the vids are free on YouTube, too! Solid program. I'm sore, but it's been a good week! Tomorrow = rest day.
Day two of workin' out! WHOOP! WHOOP!
OH Susie... I love "Wild Mountain Thyme" and would be delighted to hear you play it....
The song I want to choose I cannot play yet! "My Savior's Precious Blood". Of the things I can play, which I understand is the actual question, I guess "O Master Let Me Walk With Thee".
OH MY GOSH I LOVE Y'ALL!!! Our phone/internet was out a few weeks after a storm, and I come back to see how amazing y'all are! I LOVE IT!!!! And I kinda wanna hear it all, too....
Love, LOVE that sharing, Dusty. Don't know how I missed it, but GOOD STUFF. We will all get there, won't we?
I'm not asking for TAB, I just wanted to chuckle over some ideas that might seem very unlikely. I.e. right now I'd love to have a go at "I Like That" (with language edits) by Janelle Monae, LOL. Please don't judge me too harshly...
Thank you, Strumelia. I have actually had my closest melody string go very wonky out-of-tune while noter playing several times, like in the middle of a song! I still think that is still at play here still... And I would still do it again! LOL!
You know, we tuned right before service, and I should have checked again right before diving in. Do I just start out out of tune? LOL! People enjoyed it anyway, so that's good, and we'll keep tryin'!
The worst note, IMO, is at 33:00-33:01 "vain".
The sound people are recording the entire service, they don't have another vantage point from the balcony, and often voices are amplified while instrument aren't or the congregation isn't. It sounds very different from the pews than the livestream, which is why I'd also love to see a phone vid. I don't know that one exists...
I'm so sorry, Robin. I know what it's like to not have a computer stream well! OY! I'm not tech savvy and don't know how to record or extract or share just a part of it. Sometimes people record on their cell phones, but I don't have one! I would love to hear that, because the sound is very different that way.
HA HA Ken! We all cracked up when we saw the video. Would still love to know how dulcimer, violin, and voice all went wonky on the one REALLY TERRIBLE note! LOL!
ETA I figured out part of it... One of my melody strings decided to go wonky in the middle of playing, I think. I had this happen when I was using something uneven as a noter, but not with the bamboo. I went to play today, and the melody string closest to me was way off.
Thank you SO much, Strumelia! Yes, my girl is 12 now!!! And poor thing... We always tune by ear, but our ianist is a professional jazz pianist, he tuned us up today before our performance, and we had been practicing it withour shoddy ear tuning... LOLOL! ~and you're not old, HAZEL is old~ HA HA HA!
