Just finished this Tennessee Music Box today and it sounds good. A miserable day outside so I strung and tuned it beside my wife who was packaging some of our goats' milk soap. Family craft day!
Hi Strumella. The soaps we were packing were Freesia and Orange & Cinnamon so they smelled pretty good. The TMB had had it's first couple of coats of Boiled Linseed Oil cut with White Spirit which spoilt the effect a little!
I'd love to post a sample of playing on the TMB but this may have to wait a while until my hand injury improves, it's proving rather difficult to hold down chords or use a noter effectively at the moment. The good news is that trying to play my instruments is helping the recovery process!
Hi Irene! Thank you for your comments on my TMB; it's not the best example of my woodworking but it does the job. The box is poplar with 3/8" sides and 1/8" bottom and sound board and the fretboard is sapele. The completed instrument weighs just less than 5 lbs so not too heavy and it seems to carry the sound well. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your TMB on here when you've settled back in.
HOW FUN IS THAT?!!!! I've been gone a month visiting family in Utah and have missed being on this site daily....sigh. even though I've got much to put away and drove 12 hours today, I just had to get on and see what was happening. THIS PICTURE IS WORTH A 1,000 WORDS. tell me, is your TMB heavy? how thick is the wood you used? I've made one, but not posted photos of it yet. I used too thick a soundboard. aloha, irene
May you heal quickly and honor us with a simple tune very soon!

I love this! Between the flowers, the soap, and the fresh cut wood... the whole place must have smelled divine.
I hope you can post a sample of your playing on this box soon, Peter.
