I played this at the gravesite of my 4 x great grandfather, John Nichols.
He was a private in Co K, 11th PA Infantry, and died September 25, 1864 at Lincoln Hospital in Washington, DC.
He was old to be a soldier, enlisting when in his 40s.
Nichols was illiterate, and the hospital misunderstood his name as "Mickles" in their records.
His unit corrected the error when word of his death reached them, but the information never got back to the cemetery.
Original records at the National Archives prove this to be the case.
I have filed a request with the staff at Arlington to install a new headstone.

Poignant. Beautifully played, Tom.
Tom that story is touching, and you played beautifully. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Thanks! I actually recorded this several years ago while I had a few hours to kill at the DCA airport. No luck in getting the headstone changed out, unfortunately. They won't correct errors that are more than 75 years old.
