Back to Blackberry Creek

musician/member name: Music
Duration: 00:03:34
description:
Growing up, Dad took my sister and I down to Grandma Hatfield's house in the holler - in Southeast Kentucky - many times. She lived next to Blackberry Creek (McCarr, KY) in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. We played with cousins (skipping rocks, hiking up the hills, riding in an Uncle's pickup truck around the mountains), ate amazing food (soup beans and corn bread, home grown blackberries, biscuits & gravy), and got lots of lovin' from aunts and uncles and Grandma. Lots of family around. These were some of the best times of our lives! Happy childhood memories. Yep, I wanna go back to Blackberry Creek! Please excuse the sound of a cat scratcher toward the end - my kitty, Jingle Belle, was just "keeping it real" - lol! I'm playing my Jack Ferguson dulcimer, run through my ol' Roland Cube.

When I’m steppin’ through my day and I feel that something’s missing
my heart will walk me back to faraway
to my favorite times spent down in the holler
all I do is close my eyes and say….

I want to go back to Blackberry Creek
I want to hear the rain, the thunder
feel the breeze across my cheek
see the sunlight fill the valley
and the trees so bright with dew
then I’ll wake, with my memories of you

With my cousins skippin’ rocks and hiking up the hillside
runnin’ through the wet grass in bare feet
the sound of Grandma’s voice and sweet smells from the kitchen
all I do is close my eyes to see….

(Chorus)

Pickin’ blackberries with our hands and eatin’ every one of them
dancin’ round the bees buzzin’ in our ears
climbin’ in Uncle’s truck, ridin’ round the mountains
all I do is close my eyes to hear….

(Chorus)
