I originally recorded this for #playmusicontheporchday and wanted to drop it down a step in an effort to emphasize the drone characteristics of the mountain dulcimer.
Also, as Dusty mentioned, the camera angle makes it easy for one to see the fretboard. I tried to emphasize the use of one finger on the melody string as well.
Dusty, the “bounce” you mentioned was quite a literal one. The chair being used was a rotating patio chair and the strumming motion in my right hand was causing the whole chair (and me) to bounce🤣
Dusty Turtle:
@Irene, Ethan seems to be in a CGc tuning. But standard DAd would work as well. His camera angle makes it easy to "steal" the song, doesn't it? And his playing has a nice bounce to it, for sure.
Sorry for the slow reply Irene. I’m out of town at the moment and in all transparency, I did really well to remember to eat breakfast this morning😜
Thank you for the kind words. The tuning is CGC.
IRENE:
I like this VERY much....hey hey, what the tuning of your strings? and I'm going to my dulcimer to see if I can melody the bass string too. THANK YOU and aloha, irene
Thanks Terry. The upper octave on the bass string is territory I don’t visit too often and need to work on it more. I struggle with intonation on the bass string up there and tend to over fret.
Terry Wilson:
Nice playing. Good job of using the upper octave. Very seldom have I seen someone solo the bass string in the upper octave. I have huge difficulty playing clear notes in the upper bass. You made it look easy.

@Chadritchie
Thanks Chad. It’s a Clemmer dulcimer with walnut body and a wormy chestnut top. Tuned down to CGC.
Great playing, I love the sound of that dulcimer.
