Jill, Unfortunately I don’t have a Warren May dulcimer, but you got my curiosity up about your boat. Just wondering what you have and do you live onboard?
We have an old sailboat that is a “project”. We are nearing the end of items that we needed to finish, We don’t live onboard - we are mainly afternoon sailors. I have thought it would be fun to take a dulcimer along and play out n the water. Will see 🎶 😉.

I love the dulcimer and this community is filled with people around the world that love the same thing I do! They say variety is the spice of life - which we all bring here with different styles, different instruments, different genres, but we all love the dulcimer! And seriously - it would be tough to find a better group of people anywhere! Thank you all for being awesome!

This! 💯 I have never excelled in anything, but have learned to love time spent playing music, gardening, catching some pretty cool pictures, etc etc! I have found much true happiness in these things even though I am not at the top. Well, I AM at the top of what matters to me 🎶 😊

This may be off-discussion slightly, but I wanted to add my 2 cents (or maybe only a penny 
)
I have an old acoustic mic (sorry I have had it for years and don't even know the brand). It used to have a nice clip on it - but that is broken. The mic is on a bendable wire and fits nicely into almost all of the sound holes on my dulcimers. My issue was that if you moved or bumped the mic or cord while playing - it of course would amplify the bang. I was looking and recently found that Scotch Tape makes a wall-safe tape. It worked wonders - I put the mic in a sound hole and then used the wall-safe tape to secure it. Voila! It holds good and the best part is - no residue!
As I said - this may be off-topic a bit, but maybe it would help somebody out there!

Hi All,
I was asked to play for a memorial service that took place yesterday. Friday morning the funeral director met with me so I could do a mic check on their sound system. He was so surprised and excited about the dulcimer! He said he had never actually seen one! He loved the sound, and before I left he asked if he could take a picture to send to a friend in North Carolina. This was certainly a bright spot in a very sad situation!
At the last Quarantune 5 concert yesterday, there was a nice tribute to Bill. Tull Glazener changed his avatar screen so it was a picture of Bill and then when the concerts were over Stephen Seifert led a short jam that centered on Bill's arrangement of Rock the Cradle Joe.
The Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club has a whole page dedicated to tab donated by Bill and his wife Barbara. You can find it here .

I put new strings on the Guild 6-string last night, all in preparation for today's Pick - N - Jam, an annual party in which people pick wild berries (mostly blackberries this time of year) and then gather at an old farmhouse to make jam. While the jam is cooking, we take out our instruments and pick and jam some more. I'll be bringing my dulcimer and my guitar. This event was canceled last summer, but this year anyone vaccinated was invited to come. So grab your dulcimer and your copy of Rise Up Singing and come on down!

Emma’s Song - written by Bill Taylor is on Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer- Volume One. Bill wrote this song the night Emma was born. The version that is on Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer is very special as it was recorded 15 years later, and featured Emma on the flute!
I always have been and always will be a Bill Taylor fan!
This makes me so sad🥲. I have a beautiful Bill Taylor dulcimer, which is actually what led me to FOTMD! He was amazing, and I had the opportunity to meet Bill at the first Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club retreat many years ago. He was so talented, so humble, and so much fun! He sang and played the best ever version of “The Preacher and the Bear”! And “Emma’s Song” is, to this day, one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard!

i truly feel that way!
I have been working from home (a real challenge - and I don't even have kids under foot). Early Tuesday mornings I do our grocery shopping as well as my mom's. I deliver her groceries (only to the front porch). Then we walk. It's amazing that we haven't missed a walk in all the weeks we have been doing this! She is 87 and still walks a mile every day! The hardest part is leaving without a hug!
Time flies when you are having fun! And fun is definitely here!

Jeannie, I am so sorry for the trauma and heartache you have been thru! I hope the road ahead gets easier. I am so happy that you have 3 dulcimers again, and oh my! That one is sure a beauty! I have found music to be very healing.......

You are VERY welcome! Let me know if I can help you any more! Like I said, it wasn't perfect, but is light-weight, folds up, and adjustable. I did have a little trouble stitching the shelf liner onto the fabric, but it is helpful so you don't get the instruments slipping and sliding.

Ok - for my stand (which is a double-wide) I used the following:
(4) - 1"x2"x40" - for the legs
(3) - 3/4"x20" - dowel (for the outside leg and center)
(2) - 3/4"x18 1/2" - dowel (for the inside leg)
(2) - 26" lengths of chain (this makes the stand height adjustable)
(4) - hooks to attach chains to
Fabric, shelf liner and stain
While it isn't perfect, it certainly has served me well! I made it double-wide so I could keep 2 instruments on it, and switch them easily, especially if playing out. Let me know if you have questions.
