Hi Randy, I bought a noter from you in 2012 shaped like an hour glass dulcimer. I seem to have misplaced it or someone liked it better than me, LOL!! Anyway I would like another one. Are you still making them or some others I might like. Please let me know. My email is: joebesse@aol.com
Randy I wore the jewelry you made all during the Homer Ledford Festival. Everyone loved it and kept wanting to know where to get some. It is beautiful and I wear it all the time.
My small BD is fretted chromatically like a guitar is.
String gauges you may want to try for your new build are these:
.013 (melody)
.017 (middle)
.026 (bass)
On the bass I've got a cello string, though, and don't remember the size of it. You may want to try a flat-wound guitar string. (I may try one myself sometime because cello strings are expensive!)
I'll bet The Water is Wide is sounding good on your new BD! It's a beauty of a tune.
I'm heading to my folks' tomorrow and will look for your video tomorrow eve-- look forward to hearing it!

One thing I'd wonder about that bowed psaltery bow, Randy, is whether there's enough heft to it to help you pull enough sound from your BD. Maybe weight won't be a problem for you because you've got a pick-up. . .I've got opposite trouble sometimes-- I run out of bow real estate once in awhile.

Randy,I imagine your bowed sounds as great as it looks! So neat that you've built this.

I bet it'll have a neat sound, Randy. Hope you get a chance to record it!

Randy, my Bloom Standard BD is 25-1/4" from the nut to the fiddle-type bridge. The bass string is a cello D string-- you could try that .030 wound and see how you like it. The unwound string sizes for mine are .017 and .013. (I actually put a cello string on my middle, too, but it's so pricey ($14, I think), I'd not recommend it. These strings work well for DAD though right now I've got this BD tuned to DGD.Your project is so neat-- enjoyed your video! Bowing is addictive in a good way.

If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, Randy, I'd love to play your c'box bowed dulcimer. Bowing is just downright fun!
