Actually I play violin, but I like to say that I play fiddle I played it in middle school and then not for about 20 years and then someone gave me one, so I was really just re-learning it. Since learning to play dulcimer and mandolin, now I want to pound frets into the violin. I think it's easier to play fretted instruments. I still have a piece of clear cheater tape on my violin so that I could really nail the ending note of a song I played with an ensemble in church over a year ago. If you already play fretted instruments like the dulcimer and banjo, I'd suggest the mandolin. It's tuned the same as a violin, gdae from low to high, the strings are just doubled and the neck is fretted. After watching The Chieftains in concert and their guest fiddle player, Deannie Richardson, and how she also played mandolin sometimes, I just HAD to get my hands on one. A guitar is way to big for my short arms, but the mandolin fit just right. I learned how to play by watching Brad Laird on Youtube
That's my 2 cents, learn mandolin, it's really fun and I think way easier to play than violin.
That's cute! You play fiddle I see from the other post. That's awesome. Can I ask how difficult was fiddle to pick up? In relation to other instruments you've tried. I'm always looking for my next acquisition and fiddle is high on my list.
Wendy, I love this! World's smallest violin?
