And where else but on FOTMD would one ever read a sentence like that, I ask you?

BEGINNERS' OLD TIME JAM – DOWN THE PUB

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

Robin, I downloaded your mp3 files, but I don't hear a MD in the mix - mostly banjo - very nice though. Is it the sound on my laptop that is keeping me from hearing the MD?Thanks for posting. I wish you were closer - your group and my band would have fun together!Michael Vickey

That will be the hook at the end of the song. Sort of like how sale prices always sound better at $7.99 instead of $8.00. Now I have a direction to go with it, thanks. Maybe set it to the tune of "Wabash Cannonball".
NOOOoooooo! NOT Wabash Cannonball! Beyuck gack cough, shudders.Better Wreck of the Old 97. Or . . . in this case The Wreck of Old 799 .Michael

It is conceivable that FOTMD will have to squeeze in an 800 Member party before grocery shopping for the big 4th of July cookout. I just peeked, and the number this AM was 784.
That's odd. Today the number is 744. Where did 40 members go?Michael

This is a very awesome dulcimer--I've heard it and played it. Since you are only keeping one of your Dorogis--maybe I could have your second best? :)

General mountain dulcimer or music discussions

If I could keep only one mountain dulcimer, I would keep my Dorogi D Model dulcimer. Built by Chautauqua County, NY luthier Dennis Dorogi. The D Model is a one-of-a-kind. Incredible sound, perfect intonation and a beautiful wood sculpture.

I have several Dorogi dulcimers - all exhibit fine craftsmanship and all are built to Mr Dorogi's exacting standards.Michael Vickey www.goodfornuthin.com

Death by Raspberry. I've found out that too much chocolate can trigger a migraine, so I modified my Death by Chocolate. A foundation of raspberry meringue, topped with fresh raspberry sorbet, mounded with raspberry whipped cream and a drizzle of raspberry syrup and a handful of fresh berries tossed on. Sprig of mint for a bit of color.
Oooohh! Red Raspberries - my favorite all-time food. You can have my portion of the Evil Shrimp bits and Evil encased-olive Jello Salad, but save me a double portion of that raspberry dessert.C'mon 600.Michael

Are we talking about REAL mountain dew here, or the sweet sugary stuff you buy in the store? The soda pop you don't have to guard on my account. As far as that goes, you can also leave out the seafood items. Wouldn't touch any of it.A good Strumelia bread (oh boy those look good) for sandwiches and some chili and contra dance on a cold night sounds great.Michael

The MD that I play most often has turned friction pegs. I have never used anything like a compound nor drops on them and after 20+ years they still work as they should. Every now and then while tuning I do get the "slip past" above or below where the string should be, and the solution is usually just to lower the string tension a lot and bring it back up to tune.If the pegs and peg holes are made to properly fit together, and with the correct amount of pressure on the pegs while tuning, slipping should never be a problem.
