Reputedly written in a 'cleft' in the rock face at Burrington Combe, RH side going 'up' . Sheltered there once with my wife to be , during a heavy rain storm, she stayed dry, I got wet, 'taint much more than a narrow crack. Happy Days !!!
When I was younger(much younger) i did a lot of rock climbing and caving in the Mendip Hills. One of the landmarks we went past on our trips was a tablet that commemorates the writing of this hymn. Story goes that the Rev ... took shelter in a crack in the rocks of one of the gorges and wrote the hymn while he was waiting for the storm to pass.
Keep playing. I would just echo Helen's remarks...it sounds like the recording equipment may not be that good, or as she suggested the distance may not be right. But do keep on...love this instrument which allows so many to participate and make a joyful sound.
Thanks for the kind feedback! And Yes, Helen, I'm either going to have to get longer arms to turn the webcam off, or rearrange my studio. "Rock of Ages part 1" was an inadvertently Jimi Hendrix - esque (minus the unearthly skill) version that I didn't bother to upload with me sitting right up next to the computer...
This is sure a beautiful way to enter the music/dulcimer world!
Keep strumming and smiling!

That was good, Gary. John P... Augustus Toplady was the author of the words.
