I need to make a better picture of that dulcimer and I think that's a great idea to find out more of the maker. I play all my dulcimers on my little table. aloha, irene
Marg, this dulcimer I got at an antique store for their "1/2 price sale" for $40.00. It had horrible wood pegs that were hard to work with so I put in these banjo pegs. I like much better. Inside the right heart hole is says. To:Moony JMH 1980. In the same hole, but following the skinny part of the heart it says, "Alderwood". Now up at the top on the right round hole it says "JMH" left hole says "#1". On the back of this dulcimer it has 4 feet for playing on a table. This dulcimer has a unique sound and is quite loud enough. Some of the frets were just not right and I changed one. I wish I knew who JMH was. When I sign my dulcimers or any of the instruments I make, I put the town, year and date and my name.
I have another dulcimer that I found in Hawaii and saved from the dump. Name, number and so I was able to track that one down on the internet and called the maker up. He said he was making #204 in his shop. So fun all of this dulcimer stuff!! I made the floor "windy compass" I have a yurt roof, and antique log sides....everything in my house is of some sort of wood. aloha, irene
oh oh...I need to learn how to make the photo smaller. I'll get help somewhere. I just had to record this first dulcimer CIRCLE. When I moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, I pictured me having harp circles like I did in Ashland, Oregon. Not many harp players here and I got more into the dulcimer. I kept finding these dulcimers here and there and started fixing them up...2 months ago I started loaning these out for folks to learn on. OH WHAT FUN. Today was our first DULCIMER CIRCLE. We took turns choosing our hymns or songs and played drone style and then used our little hammers OH WHAT JOY to start off the last day of January at 8 a.m. as this was the only time we all could get together. I had found a big goose feather 4 years ago....I demonstrated that....they'll all be looking for feathers for next week to play................... The music is still ringing inside me. aloha, irene

Maybe you could start a discussion on 'who is it'. Some of the members may know who the dulcimer maker is.
The dulcimer looks something like an old Sam Carroll I have, that also has wooden pegs and the weeping hearts
Nice treasures you found. I found mine at a pawn shop

Irene,

The dulcimer at bottom of the photo, is it a fiddleside? Know who made it, Sam Carroll/Bill Davis or Mike Clemmer
Wow that's beautiful woodwork, on the floor and dulcimer!
That looks like a great group! Where is your circle held?
