A lee Oskar is a sweet harp. If you tune all of your strings down two semitones to CGc tuning, it should play well with your key of C harmonica.
Like I said, I don't know much about harmonica, so the first thing I like to do is play each fret one by one on my dulcimer and find the corresponding notes on my harp. That allows me to either follow along with the harmonica by playing the same notes, or to specifically go a 3rd or a 5th higher to harmonize, or to play the same "riff" from dulcimer an octave higher on harp.
These kind of simple techniques are really fun for me and I also like to think it adds to the sound.
Thanks for responding. I have a Lee Oskar C Major model that nI have been playing around with. I am going to get the D Major model and try it with DAD dulcimer tuning. I will let you how this works for me. I play a lot by ear. My idea is that playing with the harmonica COULD actually keep my on tune???
Hey Jim you are quite welcome. Unfortunately I don't have any useful advice for you. I'm not very knowledgeable about harmonica. I like to play it while improvising, in whatever key my dulcimer is tuned to. A lot of times I am just playing filler, and not melodies on the harmonica.
Thank you for the kind comment about the "Peardrop".
I see in your profile picture that you play harmonica with your dulcimer. I am interested in trying to play harmonica with dulcimer. I want to do fills, etc while playing in DAD tuning.
Do you use a D major harmonica with the dulcimer? Any tips you could give me would be appreciated.
Thank you for your kind comment! The VSL is 25 inches, I just posted a brand new Walnut/Spalted Maple instrument in the "for sale" forum. it is exactly the same model as the video and pictures.
Nate,
Thanks for this information. These are some great tips. I will try these methods.
